New Hoosier of the Week

Apparently, the talks for obtaining Craig Wilson could be revived with the upcoming series with the Pirates. Rob Rossi, writer at the Pittsburgh Trib-Review had this blurb regarding the Cardinals pursuit.

The Pirates are expected to up their pursuit of trading outfielder/first baseman Craig Wilson in the coming days. The St. Louis Cardinals have emerged as a suitor "very interested" in Wilson since first baseman Albert Pujols was placed on the disabled list with a strained right oblique muscle. The Pirates have inquired about availability of right-handed pitcher Anthony Reyes, a top pitching prospect in the Cardinals’ organization. St. Louis, however, is unwilling to part with Reyes. The Pirates play host to the Cardinals from June 13-15 and St. Louis is looking to strike a deal for Wilson prior to the conclusion of that three-game series.

I’m not sure what Littlefield is on, asking for Anthony Reyes but I guess I can’t say I blame him for reaching for the stars. Charlie, Buc-O blogger at Buc’s Dugout had this commentary

Normally, I’d applaud Dave Littlefield for trying, but we’ve seen this happen before: Littlefield wants to deal a player, so he goes around asking organizations for their very best prospects in exchange. This information is leaked to the press, but Littlefield’s trade proposals never materialize. And then Littlefield ends up trading the player for Jody Gerut or Ty Wigginton. If Littlefield wants to trade Wilson, he should do it soon, before Wilson spends too much more time on the bench and his value drops. The Giants, who could use a first baseman, would be a good trading partner, except they may not have the sorts of prospects Littlefield should want.

Let me say if the price is right, I’d love Craig Wilson. He won’t hit for a high average and he may strike out a lot, but he’s has good power with a career ISO of .220 and has done a good job getting on base, with a .362 OBP. He’d fit perfect while Albert is gone, then could be moved to the outfield upon Albert’s return. C_wilson Plus, InsideStl will no longer have to look for the Hoosier of the Week in the stands, as he’d be on the field. What we’d have to give up for him, I’m not sure of. Obviously Wainwright and Reyes are out of the question, but I could see Chris Lambert and maybe some other lesser prospects in a deal.

If it doesn’t work out, then I suppose Duncan and Spiezio will work for now, but I’m more looking down the road for Wilson to be an everyday corner outfielder. Hoosier cometh.
